Clothing Design Improves Figure or Physique

74 per cent of American adults are overweight or obese.  Our society spends large sums of money to look thinner and trimmer, with or without actually losing weight.

  • —With clothing, men like to appear to have larger chests, and relatively smaller waists
  • —This does not necessarily mean “weighs less”, but rather “is more fit, more in-shape, more powerful”
  • —This idea was the basic premise for John Molloy, “Dress for Success”
  • —We have tapered-cut shirts and jackets, sometimes called “athletic / trim cut”
  • —In like manner, women go to some lengths to enhance their figures
  • —This applies to dress, casual, formal, leisure, sports wear, swim wear, outerwear, and even underwear

—

The Hering illusion is an optical illusion discovered by the German physiologist Ewald Hering in 1861. The two vertical red lines are both straight, but they look as if they were bowing outwards.

We misperceive the straight lines as being curved.

—Vertical pinstripes, not parallel, but slightly tapered to the waist for both shirts/blouses and pants. They are vertical only at the center, then flare very slightly and subtly

—The stripes themselves could be slightly wider at the shoulders (e.g.3mm), thinning at the waist (2mm)

—This would give men the appearance of larger chests and smaller waists

—Same thing for women

—This could lead to more waste when a shirt is printed and sewn, but this is of little importance on an item costing upward of $50 - $100.

This is the subject of U.S. patent #11,530,529B2, “Heat transfer system utilizing dynamic fluid leveling.”
